Treasure Cove: On Repeat [January]

heeey, happy monday! hope you guys are having a fantasmical day off for MLK's day. i know i'm not, cause i'm studying for finals. ew.

real quick before you read on... a thought occurred to me as i was putting together my last playlist and i'm guessing perhaps you guys have wondered the same as well: why in all things insane am i making a post when i could just go on youtube and create a playlist?

good question. i'm not sure i have a legit answer to that as i am completely biased about youtube playlists. i'm not sure why i dislike them so, i just do and that's just the way it is. on the other hand, having my blog as the link to give people when they ask me for song suggestions <cougholderbruddercough> is easier for me to remember than a mile long youtube link. and that's all i have to say about youtube playlists. alrighty, here we go...

01 gotta usher in the new year (yes i know, january is already half gone) on the right foot. what better else than some coldplay...AFRICAN style? [coldplay-paradise (peponi) covered by the piano guys ft. alex boye] you MUST check this out. simply gorgeous arrangement. and seriously coldplay, african style? these guys are such geniuses.

02 [aj rafael-here all alone pt 3] i'm not alone, but you probably are. stick to the end of the song, well worth it. while you're at it, check out "here tonight" and "here all alone pt.2"

03 [taylor swift ft. the civil wars- safe and sound] *attention: hunger games rave+spoilers ahead* when taylor first tweeted this song, i, honestly, wasn't expecting much, but the second i listened to it, i was completely sold. she really captured the heart and soul of the series in this song--the slight eerie-ness, a melancholy atmosphere, an almost wistful twist, and an underlining intensity that builds. oh, and let's not forget the lyrics, they define and describe the atmosphere of Panem literally word-for-word. hunger games fans, you know what i'm talking about. non-hunger games fans...well, you may or may not be missing out. while everybody is saying this song would be perfect for rue's death, i say it'd be perfect for the end of the movie because let's face it, no dumb director is gonna have this song playing whilst somebody's dying. i can just picture it already, names rolling off the big screen and this song playing in the background. and while i'm still raving about this song, go listen to this cover by megan nicole+tiffany alvord. no lie, i was impressed. three cheers to the girl on fire and the boy who bakes bread.

04 [the fray- how to save a life cover by alex goot] an oldie but a goodie.

05 [ryan huston-thank you] "cute" is not exactly a word i'd use to describe songs, but this one is adorable by all definitions of the word.

06 [tawgs salter-brave] possibly one of my favoritest songs. ever.

07 [jason chen-best friend] am i the only who finds it creepy he has a key to her room?! T.T haha, but i'll admit the whole thing makes me wanna go "aww". oh yeah, he also has a chinese version here; quite impressive, no?

08 [jason chen-gravity] i finally realized the reason i didn't like jason chen (aside from the fact he seems to strain while singing), is because his originals seem to have cliche+cheesy lyrics, so i was kinda caught by surprise when i listened to this song... the intro wasn't so much of a song that i would normally like, but just get past the first ten seconds, everything gets better from there (okay the bridge is a little bit cheesy too...) haha, still like it though.

09 [armin van buuren ft adam young-youtopia] european trance music? uh, YES. a legendary DJ? mmhmm. adam young? oh, you bet. ;) ('scuse the ads at the end of the vid)

10 [snow patrol-just say yes] just say yes...

11 [snow patrol-chasing cars cover] i discovered landon austin not too long ago and maan, this guy can sing. in the rare occurrence, i subbed right after listening to his first video. chasing cars is a personal favorite of mine, so naturally it ended up being on the playlist, but don't stop there. check out his cover of t swizzle's "sparks fly"; she even tweeted it. pretty neat.

12 [we the kings-this is our town] this song makes me wish somebody would write a song about a town i grew up in, haha. on second thought, none of the towns i grew up in have attractive names that are song-worthy. bummer.

13 [coldplay-every teardrop is a waterfall cover by boyce avenue] i know, i know, this is an old song, but hey, sometimes that's just what i'm craving...

14 [semisonic-closing time cover by alex goot and chad sugg]

15 [the script-for the first time cover by heather janssen] everybody's heard the original, but not everybody's heard this amazing cover. aside from the original, this is the best cover of this song out there imo. :)

16 [switchfoot-souvenirs] i have a confession to make; don't kill me for it: after listening to switchfoot's album, hello hurricane, i sorta didn't... like them ...as much ...anymore. uh...yeah. <dodges bullets and runs away> don't you worry, i still love em, just liked their old stuff better. buuuut, a couple days ago, ethan told me to listen to this song and i haven't stopped listening to it since. who knows, maybe i'll change my mind about switchfoot after all...

17 [switchfoot-where i belong] ...hm, i guess i have changed my mind about them...

18 [jason mraz-i won't give up] the acoustics kinda tug at my heartstrings. i mean there's just enough sentiment to it without making it come off as mushy. it's also packed with such meaningful lyrics. i mean seriously, considering what junk is out there nowadays? yeah, this is quite a refresher. 'cause even the stars they burn, some even fall to the earth. we got a lot to learn, God knows we're worth it. no, i won't give up. ...we had to learn how to bend, without the world caving in.

sorry this playlist was a liitttle bit late. i probably will have one out the second week of each month from here on out... nevertheless, hope you guys enjoyed this one. have a swell week.
